R-4788 t e e RESOLUTION NO. 4788(CCS) (CITY COUNCIL SERIES) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA WA IVING FORMAL BID PROCEDURE AND AUTHORIZING DIRECT NEGOTIATION FOR PUR- CHASE OF A VAN-TYPE STATION WAGON WHEREAS. the City of Santa Monica has need of a 15- passenger van-type station wagon for use by the Police Depart- mentj and WHEREAS, wagons with this capacity in this configuration are available only from Chrysler Corporation dealersj and WHEREAS, sixteen dealers have been canvassed and only one suitable vehicle has been located; and WHEREAS, deferment of purchase may incur an additional cost of up to six hundred dollars ($600.00); and WHEREAS, to formally advertise for bids would entail expense and additional delay with no assurance that this action would be in the City's best interest. NOW. THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. That the City Council finds that the require- ment exists for a IS-passenger van-type station wagon for use by the Police Department. SECTION 2. That canvass of sixteen (16) local dealers satisfies the intent of city charter and municipal code provisions calling for competitive bidding. SECTION 3. That only one suitable vehicle is known to be available and that to advertise formally for bids would entail expense and additional delay with no assurance of a lower acquisition COBt. - SECTION 4. That formal bid procedure is waived and the City Manager is authorized to negotiate directly for the van-type station wagon with the dollar amount budgeted. -1- .......::....._-- , e - SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect. ADOPTED and APPROVED this 24th day of August 1976.
