A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA WAIVING FORMAL BID PROCEDURE
AND AUTHORIZING SALE OF USED VEHICLES BY
COMMERCIAL AUCTION.
WHEREAS, the City periodically has the need to sell used
vehicles and equipment no longer needed in the City's business, and
liHEREAS, prices received previously through formal bid sales
of similar vehicles and equipment often have not reflected current
open market value; and
WHEREAS, other governmental agencies in the area have
availed themselves of commercial auction services with apparent
benefit, and
WHEREAS, it would be in the City's interest to ascertain the
merit of commercial auctions by selective participation.
THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS.
SECTION 1. That the City of Santa Monica has the need to
sell used vehicles and equipment no longer required in the City's
business.
SECTION 2. That previous sales of similar vehicles and
equipment through formal bid procedure may not have resulted in maxi-
mum return to the City.
SECTION 3. That it is in the City's interest to participate
in a commercial auction to ascertain whether or not such an auction
will generate maximum return to the City.
SECTION 4. That formal bid procedure is waived for the sale
of used vehicles and equipment and the City Manager is authorized to
negotiate for commercial auction services on the open market without
calling for bids.
SECTION 5. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption
of this resolution and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in
full force and effect.
