RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE FILING OF AN APPLICATION WITH THE
DEPAR~lENT OF TRk~SPORTATION, UNITED STATES OF ~~ERICA, FOR
A G~VT UNDER THE URBk~ ~~SS TRANSPORTATION ACT OF 1964, AS AMENDED
WHEREAS, the Secretary of TransportatIon IS authorlzed to make grants for
mass transportatIon proJects;
I~EREAS, the contract for f1nancial ass1stance wlll 1mpose certain obligations
upon the appl1cant, 1ncludlng the provIsion by 1t of the local share of pro-
Ject costs;
I~EREAS, It IS requlred by the U.S. Department of TransportatIon In accord
wIth the provisions of T1tle VI of the CiVll Rights Act of 1964, that In con-
nectlon wIth the flling of an applicatlon for asslstance under the Urban Mass
Transportatlon Act of 1964, as amended, the applicant g1ve an assurance that
lt wlll comply wlth Tltle VI of the Civll Rights Act of 1964 and the U.S.
Department of Transportation requlrements thereunder; and
~~EREAS, it lS the goal of the ApplIcant that mlnorlty business enterpr1se
be utIlIzed to the fullest extent pOSSIble in connection with this proJect,
and that def1nlte procedures shall be establIshed and adm1nlstered to ensure
that m1nority busInesses shall have the maX1mum feaSIble opportunlty to com-
pete for contracts when procurlng construct10n contracts, supplies, equipment
contracts, or consultant and other serVlces:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the City Councll of the Clty of Santa Monlca
as follows.
SECTION 1.
That the CIty Manager lS authorlzed to execute and flle
an appllcatlon on behalf of the Santa MonIca Munlclpal Bus
Llnes WIth the U.S. Department of Transportation, to aId
in the financing of seventeen new air-conditIoned dIesel
transit buses and three hundred fiberglass bus benches.
SECTION 2.
That the CIty Manager is authorized to execute and file
wlth such appllcatlon an assurance or any other document
required by the U.S. Department of Transportation effect-
uatlng the purposes of Tltle VI of the CiVll Rights Act of
1964.
SECTION 3.
That James D. WillIams, City Manager, 1S authorIzed to fur-
nlsh such addltlonal informatlon as the U.S. Department of
TransportatIon may require In connectIon with the appllcatlon
or the proJect.
SECTION 4.
That the C1ty Manager 1S authorIzed to set forth and execute
affirmatIve m1norIty bUSIness polIcies in connect1on WIth the
proJect's procurement needs.
