A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA SETTING
FORTH PROCEDURES FOR MAKING APPOINT-
MENTS TO PUBLIC BOARDS AND COMMISSIONS
WHEREAS, the State Leg~slature has amended the
Ralph M. Brown Act to requ~re that persons appointed to an
off1ce by the leg1slative body of a local agency be so
appo1nted ~n open sess~on; and
WHEREAS, 1t 1S the des~re and intent of the Clty
Counc~l of the C~ty of Santa Mon1ca to comply w1th such
proVlslons;
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1.
That the procedure for mak~ng
appointments to City Boards and Cornm1ssions shall'henceforth
be as follows, except as otherwise provlded by the City Councll:
a. When a vacancy appears on any board or
cornmlssion, the City Clerk shall publish at least once ln the
Santa Monlca Evenlng Outlook a newspaper of general clrculation,
a publlC notlce of such vacancy. Said publicatlon shall be
made not less than thirty (3D) days prior to the date a vacancy
is to occur ln those cases where the vacancy occurs as a result
of the expiration of the term of appolntment, and where
practical, like notice shall be publlshed where a vacancy
otherwise occurs. Such notice shall request any lnterested
party to submlt his or her name and qualificatlons to the
City Clerk. Such notice shall also specify the positlon for
which a vacancy has occurred, the term of office for which
the pOSltlon will be filled and a reasonable date by WhlCh
interested parties must submlt applicatlons for the positlon.
