A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
ESTABLISHING A REVISED PROCEDURE
FOR PROCESSING ENCROACHMENT
PERMITS THROUGH THE DEPARTMENT
OF GENERAL SERVICES AND THE
CITY COUNCIL, AND~HE ESTABLISHMENT
OF AN ENCROACHMENT PERMIT F-EE
SCHEDULE.
WHEREAS, Sectlon 7100 of the Santa Monlca Munlc~pal
Coqe provides that perrn~SS1on from the Department of
G~neral SerV1ces lS necessary before excavat~ons are ~ade
In, under, or such as to obstruct the surface of any part
of any publ1C stree~ or ~ldewalk; and,
WHEREAS, Section 7124 of the Santa Monlca Munlclpal
Code provldes also that permisSlon of the Department of
General Servlces be had prlor to mak1ng certain excavations
under public ways,
NOW, THEREFORE, the City Counc11 of the Clty of
Santa Monlca does resolve as follows:
SECTION 1. That all requests for encroachments
be channeled through the Dlrector of General SerVlces, and
the Director make the determlnatlon as to whether such
request be handled by the City Councilor by the admlnlstration.
SECTION 2. That If the request for the encrQachment
lS approved by the admlnlstrat1on, the appl~cant be issued
a revocable permit, and the matter not appear before the

SECTION 3. That if the request for the encroachment
lS denled by the administratlon, the applicant then has the
option of rnaklng hls plea to the Clty Council.
SECTION 4. That a fee of twenty-five dollars
be establlshed in order to repay the City for costs of
paper work and invest~gatlon of encroachments. Such fee
would break down as follows:
An investlgation charge of fifteen dollars
($15) per hour plus a permlt fee of ten
dollars ($10) for in-house staff work.
SECTION 5.
The Clty Clerk shall certlfy to the
adoption of thls resolutlon, and thenceforth and thereafter
the same shall be in full force and effect.
