A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COm~CIL
OF "THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA ENDORSING
HJR 638 AND SJR 134 EXTENDING FOR
SEVEN YEARS THE TIME FOR RATIFICATION
OF THE EQUAL RIGHTS AMENDMENT TO
THE UNITED STATES COUSTITUTION
WHEREAS, in li~ht of the ~mpend~ng expiratlon of
the tkffie withln which the Equal Rights Amendment to the Unlted
States Constitution (ERA) may be ratified, there has been
introduced ~n the United States House of Representatives and
~n the Unlted States Senate jOlnt resolutions HJR 638 and
SJR 134 providing for an additional seven years wlthin which
the necessary number of states may ratlfy the ERA; and
WHEREAS, it is desirable that thls extenslon of
tlme be granted in order to provlde the fullest opportunity
for expresslon of Vlews on the ERA to cltizens of those
states that have not ratlfled the ERA,
NOW, THEREFORE, the Clty Councll of the Clty of
Santa Monica does hereby resolve as follows:
SECTION 1.
The Clty Council of the City of Santa
Monica does hereby endorse the passage of HJR 638 and
SJR 134, providing for an extenslon of seven years within
which the ratification of the Equal Rights Amendment may be
accomplished, and urges all members of Congress to vote for

SECTION 2. The C~ty Clerk shall certify to the
adoption of this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter
the same shall be ~n full force and effect.
