A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA CLOSING OCEAN AVENUE
BETWEEN MONTANA AVENUE AND WASHINGTON
AVENUE BETWEEN 10:00 A.M. A~D 4:00 P.M.
ON SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 1978.
WHEREAS, it 1S proposed that the Santa Monica Jaycees
sponsor a bed race to fund community projects (eg: Huck Finn Day,
Miss Santa Monica Pageant, Santa Claus Visitation, Blood Pressure
Checks, Toys for the Needy, and the Santa Monica Boys Club).
WHEREAS, such proceeds from the race are in the public
interest, and for the benefit of the City of Santa Monica.
WHEREAS, the closing of Ocean Avenue to vehicular traffic
between Montana Avenue and Wash1ngton Avenue is necessary for the
safety and protect10n of persons participating in and attending
said race.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA
MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the closing of Ocean Avenue between
Montana Avenue and Washington Avenue on September 17, 1978. between
the hours of 10:00 o'clock a.m. and 4:00 o'clock p.m. 1S necessary
for the safety and protection of persons part1cipat1ng in and
attend1ng the bed race to be held thereat.
SECTION 2. That such portion of Ocean Avenue, in the
City of Santa Monica, shall be barricaded and closed to vehicular
traffic between the ~ours of 10:00 o'clock a.m. and 4:00 o'clock
p.m. on September 17, 1978.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adopt1on
of this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall
be in full force and effect.
