A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
AUTHORIZING THE HOLDING OF A PROCESSION ON APRIL 17, 2000, ON A
ROUTE OTHER THAN THE OFFICIAL CITY PARADE ROUTE
WHEREAS, pursuant to Section 4.08.580 ofthe Santa MonicaMunicipal Code, the
City Council may authorize a parade route as set forth herein,
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That on April 17, 2000, at 4:30 p.m. participants in the
Religious/Community Processional for Health Coverage and Living Wages in Santa Monica
Hotels are authorized to conduct a procession along the following route:
Staging for the procession, including speeches and music, will begin at 4:30 p.m.
on Ocean Front Walk at the west end of Pico Boulevard (between the Casa del Mar and
Shutters hotels). An estimated 700-1,000 participants will then proceed northbound on
Ocean Front Walk, east on Marine Terrace (in the street), north on Appian Way (in the
street), east on Seaside Terrace (in the street), north on Ocean Avenue (on the sidewalk
on the west side of the street) across Colorado (using the crosswalk and with the help of
Police) to Palisades Park. Procession will continue north along Palisades Park (on the
sidewalk on the west side of the street and in the southbound parking lane of Ocean
Avenue). Procession will end in Palisades Park just north of Wilshire Boulevard across

from the Fairmont Miramar Hotel at 6:30 p.m.
SECTION 2. Permission to conduct the parade is granted upon the following
conditions:
a. That one southbound and two northbound lanes of Ocean Avenue, between
Colorado and California, remain open at all times.
b. That the procession will take place from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
c. That any service not provided by the City, such as barricading and coning of
streets and posting of directional signs, be assumed by the organizers.
d. That organizers be responsible for notifying the residents and businesses
along the procession route in writing in advance of the event.
e. That, in coordination with the Police Department, the organizers be
responsible for posting "Temporary No Parking" signs along the procession route at least
24 hours in advance and removing them immediately following the parade.
f. That all litter be cleared from the streets, sidewalks, and event area at
Palisades Park immediately following the procession.
g. That the procession end in Palisades Park across from the Fairmont Miramar
Hotel.
h. That an "Indemnity and Hold Harmless Agreement" be executed and returned
to the Events Office by April 14, 2000.

I. That if General Liability insurance is retained it will name the City of Santa
Monica, members of the City Council, boards, commissions, officers, agents, employees,
and volunteers as additional insured.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
