This letter is to petition City Council to take action regarding Chess Park, we are recommending closing chess park while the removal of all park improvements including but not limited to benches, chairs, tables & umbrellas, and fencing should extend to the concrete wall that divides the park and the boardwalk and possible relocation of the current chess boards and pieces to possible alternate locations (i.e. Virginia ave park) and begin a public process to repurpose the Chess Park (once known as seaside Park) in anticipation of the 2028 Olympics. The commission looks forward to assist in sourcing private public partnerships. This is the first time the Recreation and Parks Commission suggests on closing /repurpose a park as supposed to opening one. Thank you for your time and consideration Sincerely, Lori Brown Lori Brown Chair, Recreation and Parks Commission cc: Recreation and Parks Commission Andy Agle, Director of Community Services Department Item 14 11/23/21 2 of 2 Item 14 11/23/21 14.A.a Packet Pg. 707 Attachment: Written Comment (4860 : [!Short description about your item!])
