Subject:PUBLIC COMMENT for today 11/23/21
EXTERNAL
As a long time citizen of Santa Monica, and parent
Why, can the council meet in our public city hall, but us citizens of Santa Monica can not? Not very civil, and this rule?
Mandate? Decided by whom? Inhibits true public involvement, and I question its authority and legality based on
California State law, and constitution.
You should let the public attention the meetings, in person, with ability to publicly speak and make comments openly.
Why? And to what extent does our city allow, and is able to prevent Covid 19 mandates for children within our city and
school districts with public vote and say on matter?
Why can we not have a special meeting addressing these details with members of the community so we ca have a direct
say in the matter of vaccine mandates for businesses, school, and library’s?
I would appreciate reasons and answers to my question, address my questions in detail, to what specific law or mandate
you are enforcing on the rest of the Santa Monica citizens such as myself.
I am against forced and random testing at schools, smart pass, and mandated covid 19 vaccination for children and
adults.
Thank you

Recreation and Parks Commission
November 23, 2021
Mayor Himmelrich and City Council Members
City of Santa Monica
1685 Main Street,
Santa Monica, CA 90401
Re: Chess Park
Dear Mayor Himmelrich and Council Members,
At its October 22, 2021, the Recreation & Parks Commission acted unanimously on the
Motion and concluded that certain daily activities happening at Chess Park pose an
immediate threat to the community and that Council should take emergency
measures to adopt all necessary steps to protect the public’s health, safety, and
welfare.
This letter is to petition City Council to take action regarding Chess Park, we are
recommending closing chess park while the removal of all park improvements
including but not limited to benches, chairs, tables & umbrellas, and fencing should
extend to the concrete wall that divides the park and the boardwalk and possible
relocation of the current chess boards and pieces to possible alternate locations (i.e.
Virginia ave park) and begin a public process to repurpose the Chess Park (once
known as seaside Park) in anticipation of the 2028 Olympics. The commission looks
forward to assist in sourcing private public partnerships.
This is the first time the Recreation and Parks Commission suggests on closing
/repurpose a park as supposed to opening one.
Thank you for your time and consideration
Sincerely,
Lori Brown
