Mayor and Council
I’m requesting that my written comments be placed into the official records for the City Council meeting on September
12, 2023.
My comments are related to PUBLIC SAFETY and not to a specific item on tonight’s Agenda.
I have written {via email} to the Council and City Manage on several occasions regarding the dangerous intersections on
Washington Ave at 12th St and Euclid Ave.
Horn blowing and screeching cars have become a daily occurrence on the corners of 12th and Washington and Euclid
and Washington. Car accidents occur far too frequently at the intersection of 12th and Washington. The most recent
was less than one week ago!
It’s unconscionable that four way stop signs have not been installed at the identified intersections. To be made aware of
the risks associated with these intersections and failure to take action is incomprehensible and potentially exposes the
City to liability.
Four way stop signs are present throughout Washington Ave ‐ the need to be installed at 12th St and Euclid to reduce
the risk of further accidents, injuries and potentially fatalities. I can hear the questioning now: 1) Were you made aware
of the dangerous intersections? 2) When were you made aware of the danger? 3) What actions could you have taken to
mitigate the risks? 4) How much would it have cost for you to install the stop signs? 5) Did you install the stop signs? 6)
Why didn’t you install the stop signs? 7) How much is the value of a life cut short?
Your number one priority as a Council is to increase public safety; including safe intersections for drivers and pedestrians
alike.
PLEASE direct staff to take immediate action and install Four Way Stop signs at the intersections identified above.
Should this remedy not be taken, I’m committed to increasing and elevating my activism to improve public safety at
these intersections and shine a light on the City’s failure to take action.
Regards,

EXTERNAL
This past weekend saw an armed robbery at 17th & Wilshire and another break‐in on Montana Avenue, the fourth break‐
in there since last weekend.
Deterring local crime is not addressed nearly enough in Council meeƟngs. For anyone needing a more caffeinated wake‐
up, please see the crimes, causes, and suggesƟons described over the past year in:
