Subject:Agenda Item 1 - Public Input - Crime
EXTERNAL
In the September 12 Council meeƟng, SMPD Chief BaƟsta informed the Council and the public that crime in Santa
Monica conƟnues to increase, now eclipsing pre‐pandemic levels.
Yet tonight’s agenda includes zero discussion of taking further acƟon to deter criminals here.
Since Chief BaƟsta’s presentaƟon, public records show SMPD has made mulƟple arrests for violent crimes in Santa
Monica. (These are arrests, mind you, not total crimes commiƩed.) In just the 12 days from September 12 to September
23, for example, arrests in Santa Monica included:
Five (5) for assault with a deadly weapon;
Four (4) for robbery;
Three (3) for baƩery, including an aggravated baƩery causing serious bodily injury;
Three (3) for using unlawful force against a police officer, including an assault with a deadly weapon against a police
officer;
Two (2) for assault by means likely to produce great bodily injury;
Plus arrests for Brandishing a Deadly Weapon, Carjacking, DomesƟc BaƩery, Elder Abuse, and Statutory Rape.
And these were in addiƟon to arrests for a tacky assortment of crimes such as Failing to Register as a Sex Offender,
Providing False ID to a Police Officer, Public IntoxicaƟon, Receiving Stolen Property, ShopliŌing, Defrauding an Innkeeper,
Vandalism, and various Warrant and Parole ViolaƟons.
Ignoring the problem is not a soluƟon.
Sincerely,
Peter DiChellis

Subject:Covered 6 is dishonest and affiliated with extremism, anti-Immigrants, and Transphobia
EXTERNAL
Please do not allow public funds to be used on a contract with Covered6. Chris Dunn has been lying about his co‐
founder, Bryce Eddy for some time now. Bryce Eddy is a far right extremist who refers to the LGBTQI community as
“satanic” and “mentally ill.” When Dunn was asked about this by a community member in the Las Virgenes School
District area of the Conejo Valley, he lied. There are receipts. This company is run by extremists. It is not safe to allow
them to “police” our communities and it is unethical to use public funds on a company with obvious ties to far right
political extremists.

Subject:9/26/23 meeting item 2 public comment: Phil, Oscar, Christine, and Lana owe residents and staff an
apology
EXTERNAL
During the July 25 council meeting discussion on Phil and Oscar's travel budget overruns, Phil repeatedly blamed staff
for not warning him he would be going over until he was already over in March. Oscar claimed “nobody was given a
report to say hey you’re going over.” Christine claimed "nobody was letting us know, hey by the way, heads up, you’re a
thousand dollars away" and further blamed staff for not onboarding her properly. Lana claimed "this is just a
circumstance where there was poorer systems in place before that weren’t alerting councilmembers to what was left".
But emails received via a Public Records Act request clearly show that staff first warned Phil in JANUARY that he would
be going over. And another PRA request shows that ALL councilmembers receive the travel policy as part of their
onboarding materials; and Phil moved, and Oscar and Christine voted yes on, a motion during one of their very first
council meetings to pass the travel policy they now blame staff for not telling them about.
Phil, Oscar, Christine, and Lana owe an apology not just to the residents, but to our hardworking staff for callously
throwing them under the bus to cover up Phil and Oscar's unwillingness to adhere to their travel budgets.
