Item 3A for Tuesday is a Commendation for our retiring City Clerk. Council members know that, on half a dozen
occasions during the past year, I have written Denise to request she change the statement in the first sentence of her
office’s automatic replies saying “Thank you for your email and we will respond within one business day.” That specific
promise is always totally untrue and raises false expectations. Denise has never responded by either changing her false
language or telling me why it will not be changed.
I am positive that if the Clerk reported to the City Manager, which is unfortunately not the case under the current
Charter, David, a man of total respect for honesty and desire for superior performance by staff, would have instructed
Denise to change the language or find another job. Hopefully, one or more Council members will make that demand on
the next Clerk.
It should also be remembered that Olga and I filed with HR an ethical complaint alleging about 7 instances of
serious improper and unethical conduct by Denise and/or her top assistant Nikki.We 100% proved all of our charges but
were not allowed to see the detailed conclusions or opinion from the City’s outside law firm to HR.
