It is vital to look ahead and come up with creative ways to support Santa Monica’s economic recovery and provide a variety of entertainment offerings for residents and visitors. Ice at Santa Monica is always a fun and festive seasonal activity and I see no reason why we shouldn’t explore other ways to make better use of the surface parking lot(s) during other parts of the year.     Until the City makes a determination about the long-term land use of the site, it would be wonderful to have other opportunities for family-friendly activities in the downtown area. I mentioned this agenda item to a few folks over the last few days and everyone I spoke to responded very positively. My one suggestion would be to look at possibly having the roller rink in the summer as that would help Santa Monica students on summer break have more options on how to spend their time, and it would help drive visitors to the eastern part of downtown where they could potentially shop at businesses they wouldn’t typically visit. Plus- if it’s during the summer, that gives plenty of time for the set up and breakdown of Ice at Santa Monica.     Thank you again to Councilmember Parra and Vice Mayor Negrete for bringing this item forward.     I look forward to listening to the Council’s discussion on this item and future opportunities to support Santa Monica’s economic recovery.    Thank you, Natalya Zernitskaya     Natalya Zernitskaya (she/her)  nzernitskaya@gmail.com    ITEM 16.G.
