SR 07-27-2021 3G
City Council Report
City Council Meeting: July 27, 2021
Agenda Item: 3.G
1 of 2
To: Mayor and City Council
From: Lori Gentles, Chief People Officer, Human Resources Department
Subject: Adoption of Salary Resolution
Recommended Action
Staff recommends that the City Council adopt the attached Salary Resolution to
establish new classification titles for Assistant Director of Department of Transportation
and Director of Department of Transportation, and to restore the classification of Transit
Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent.
Summary
The proposed title changes for the Assistant Director of Department of Transportation
and Director of Department of Transportation and the restoration of the Transit Vehicle
Maintenance Superintendent are due to the recent restructuring of the Santa Monica
Department of Transportation. The title changes and restoration of the job
classifications were inadvertently omitted from the salary resolution that was approved
by City Council on June 22, 2021. This amendment will effectuate these changes in the
FY 2021-23 Biennial Budget. There is no fiscal impact associated with this item.
Discussion
As part of the Fiscal Year 2019-2020 Year-End Budget report, Council approved the
creation of the Department of Transportation, which included a consolidation of the Big
Blue Bus, Mobility, and Parking operations. The FY 2021-23 Proposed Budget included
the title changes for the Assistant Director of Department of Transportation and the
Director of Department of Transportation, as well as the establishment of a Transit
Vehicle Maintenance Superintendent position. While the positions were approved as
part of the budget, the specific job classifications were inadvertently omitted from the
Salary Resolution which establishes the salaries for the associated classification titles.
This resolution rectifies the issue.
