A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A GRANT
AWARD IN THE AMOUNT OF $115,983 FROM THE STATE OF CALIFORNIA
DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL, TOBACCO LAW
ENFORCEMENT GRANT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica (the “City) desires to participate in the
Tobacco Law Enforcement Grant Program, which is authorized under the California
Healthcare Research and Prevention Tobacco Tax Act of 2016 (Prop. 56) and
administered by the California Department of Justice to support the reduction of the illegal
sale of tobacco products to minors in the City, and
WHEREAS, on August 14, 2022, the City submitted its proposal for the Program,
and
WHEREAS, on November 15, 2022, the California Department of Justice notified
the City that it will be awarded $115,983 in grant funds for its participation in the Program
for three years, and
WHEREAS, the California Department of Justice requires that the Santa Monica
City Council expressly authorize, by way of resolution, the City’s participation in the
Program and receipt of the grant funds through the execution of an agreement with the
State of California.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:

SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Monica authorizes the City
Manager to negotiate and execute any agreements and amendments thereto with the
State of California to accept a grant from the California Department of Justice, in the
amount of $115,983, for the City’s participation in the Tobacco Law Enforcement Grant
Program.
SECTION 2. The grant funds received hereunder shall not be used to supplant
expenditures controlled by the City Council.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolut ion, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
