AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA PROPOSING
TWO AMENDMENTS TO THE CHARTER OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA AND PROVIDING FOR THE
SUBMISSION OF THE SAME TO THE QUALIFIED
ELECTORS THEREOF FOR ADOPTION AND
RATIFICATION THEREOF AT THE GENERAL
MUNICIPAL ELECTION TO BE HELD ON THE
8TH DAY OF APRIL, 1975.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The followlng amendments to the Charter
of the City of Santa Monica hereby are proposed to be submitted
for ratification and adoptlon to the qualifled electors of the
Clty of Santa Monlca, at a general munlcipal electlon to be
held ln sald City on the 8th day of April, 1975, and sald
proposed amendments to be submltted as a separate propositlon
and sald proposed amendments hereby are enumerated as follows:
PROPOSED CHARTER AMENDMENT NUMBER ONE
Seetlon 601 of the Charter of the City of Santa
Monlca hereby lS amended so that the same shall be and shall
read as follows:
"Seetlon 601. Ellglbility. No person
shall be e1lg1ble to hold office as a
member of the Clty Councll unless he shall
be a guallfled elector at the time of
hls nomlnatlon, and shall have been a
resident of the Clty for at least 30
days prior to the fl11ng of hlS nominatlon
papers or the date of hlS appointment."

hereby ~s amended so that the same shall be and shall read
as follows:
nSection 901. El~g~bility. No person
shall be eligible to hold office as a
member of the Board of Education unless
he shall have been a qualified elector
of the school district for at least 30
days prior to the filing of his nomination
papers or the date of his appointment."
SECTION 2. The City Clerk not less than forty (40)
days and not more than sixty (60) days before the 8th day of
Apr~l, 1975, shall cause this ordinance to be published
once in the official newspaper of the C~ty of Santa Monica,
to w~t, the Evenlng Outlook, a newspaper of general circulation
wlthin the C~ty of Santa Monlca, and in each edltlon thereof
during the day of publicatlon and shall cause a copy of sald
ordinance to be printed in convenient pamphlet form and in type
of not less than ten pOlnt and shall cause copies thereof to
be mal1ed to each of the quallfied electors of the Clty of
Santa Monica, and shall until the day fixed for the election
upon such proposed amendment, advertise in the Even~ng Outlook,
a newspaper of general clrculatlon in the City of Santa Monlca,
a not~ce that copies of such proposed amendment may be had
upon application therefor.
SECTION 3. ThlS ordinance shall take effect upon its
adoption.
SECTION 4. The Mayor shall slgn and the City Clerk
shall attest to the passage of this ordinance.
ADOPTED and APPROVED this 28th day of
January
1975.
