ORDINANCE NO. 932
(CITY COUNCIL SERIES)
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA AMENDING THE SANTA MONICA MISCELLAN-
EOUS CONSTRUCTION REGULATIONS AS INCORPORATED BY
SECTION 8102 OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE
TO PROVIDE FOR SUPPLEMENTAL REQUIREMENTS FOR
RESIDENTIAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE CITY.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES HEREBY
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION I. The Santa Monica Miscellaneous Construction
Regulations as incorporated by Section 8102 of the Santa Monica
Municipal Code are hereby amended to add the following section~
Division 6.00 Construction. Construction of
all residential structures shall be consistent with high
quality building standards; double stud construction shall
be required on all party walls and subterranean garages
shall not extend more than three (3) feet above the average
grade level of the adjoining ground for multifamily residen-
tial structures and condominiums.
SECTION 2. Any provision of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code. or appendices thereto, inconsistent herewith, to the extent
of such inconsistencies and no further are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. If any section, subsection, sentence, clause
or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or
unconstitutional by a decision of any court of competent jurisdiction,
such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining portions
of the ordinance. The City Council hereby declares that it would
have passed this ordinance and each section, subsection, sentence,
clause or phrase hereof, irrespective of the fact that anyone or more
sections, subsections, sentences, clauses, or phrases be declared
invalid or unconstitutional.
SECTION 4. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk shall
attest to the passage of this ordinance. The City Clerk shall cause

the same to be published once in the official newspaper within fifteen
days after its adoption. This ordinance shall become effective after
thirty days from its adoption.
