R11269DocuSign Envelope ID: 2F12DCF4-B836-4764-AF66-599D9D33D1F0 1 City Council Meeting: July 14, 2020 Santa Monica, California RESOLUTION NUMBER 11269 (CCS) (City Council Series) A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA ADDING THE ELECTION OF A VACANT CITY COUNCIL SEAT TO THE GENERAL MUNICIPAL ELECTION HELD ON TUESDAY, NOVEMBER 3, 2020, AS REQUIRED BY THE CALIFORNIA ELECTIONS CODE AND PROVISIONS OF THE SANTA MONICA CITY CHARTER WHEREAS, at the June 9, 2020 City Council meeting, the Council adopted Resolutions 11254 and 11255 (CCS) to call and give notice for holding a General Municipal Election on November 3, 2020 for the election of officers, and request the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors to consolidate the election with the Statewide General Election to be held on the same date and render specified services to the City relating to the election; and WHEREAS, on June 17, 2020, Councilmember Greg Morena sent the City Clerk’s office a letter stating his intent to resign from the Council effective June 24, 2020; and WHEREAS, at the June 23, 2020 City Council meeting, the Council acknowledged the resignation of Councilmember Greg Morena and adopted Resolution 11258 (CCS) declaring a vacancy on the City Council as of June 24, 2020; and DocuSign Envelope ID: 2F12DCF4-B836-4764-AF66-599D9D33D1F0 2 WHEREAS, Section 603 of the City Charter provides that at the next General Municipal Election following a vacancy, a councilmember shall be elected to serve for the remainder of the unexpired term. NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS: SECTION 1. An election required for the purpose of electing one member of the City of Santa Monica City Council for a two-year term expiring in 2022 shall be added to the November 3, 2020 City of Santa Monica General Municipal Election (subject to change depending on the outcome of the City’s appeal from the trial court’s order in Pico Neighborhood Association, et al. v. City of Santa Monica, Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. BC616804). SECTION 2. The City Clerk is directed to send a copy of this Resolution to the Board of Supervisors and to the Registrar of Voters/County Clerk of the County of Los Angeles. SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect. APPROVED AS TO FORM: GEORGE S.
