ORDINANCE NO. 961 (CCS)

AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF
SANTA MONICA AMENDING THE SANTA MONICA MISCELLAN-
EOUS CONSTRUCTION REGULATIONS AS INCORPORATED BY
SECTION 8102 OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE
TO PROVIDE FOR SUPPLEMENTAL REQUIREMENTS FOR RESI-
DENTIAL DEVELOPMENT IN THE CITY.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES HEREBY
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The Santa Monica Miscellaneous Construction
Regulations as incorporated by Section 8102 of the Santa Monica
Municipal Code are hereby amended to add the following section:
Division 7.00. FIRE DETECTION SYSTEMS. In the
re-modeling of all residential units wherein the valuation
of the permit for re-modeling exceeds $5,000., the installa-
tion of a fire detection unit conforming to the require-
ments of either Section 1310 (a) or Section 1413 of the
Santa Monica Building Code shall be required.
SECTION 2. Any provision of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code, or appendices thereto, inconsistent herewith, to the extent
of such inconsistencies and no further are hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. If any section, subsection, clause or phrase
of this ordinance is for any reason held to be invalid or uncon-
stitutional by a decision of any court of competent jurisdiction,
such decision shall not affect the validity of the remaining por-
tions of the ordinance. The City Council hereby declares that
it would have passed this ordinance and each section, subsection,
sentence, clause or phrase hereof, irrespective of the fact
that anyone or more sections, subsections, sentences, clauses,
or phrases be declared invalid or unconstitutional.

SECTION 4. This Council finds and determines that this
ordinance is necessary and must be enacted in order to preserve
the public health and safety of all prospective buyers or renters
of the dwellings herein mentioned, as well as to protect all of
the citizens of the City of Santa Monica by preserving and im-
proving the aesthetic and environmental conditions of their city.
SECTION 5. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk
shall attest to the passage of this ordinance. The City Clerk
shall cause the same to be published once in the official news-
paper within fifteen days after its adoption. This ordinance
shall become effective after thirty days from its adoption.
