AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA AMENDING SECTION
4200A OF THE SANTA MONICA MUNICIPAL CODE
RELATING TO LIFEGUARDS.
THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA DOES
ORDAIN AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. S4200A of the Santa Monica Municipal
Code is hereby amended to read as follows:
S4200A. Beaches. Obedience to Lifeguards.
It is unlawful to willfully fail or refuse to comply with any
lawful order, signal, or direction of any member of the Los
Angeles County Lifeguard Service when wearing a badge or
insignia of a lifeguard and when in the course of his duties
he is seeking to enforce a lawful order of this Code.
SECTION 2. Any prov~~n of the Santa Monica

Municipal Code or appendices thereto inconsistent herewith,
to the extent of such inconsistencies and no further, are
hereby repealed.
SECTION 3. If any section, subsection, sentence,
clause or phrase of this ordinance is for any reason held to
be invalid or unconstitutional by a decision of any court of
competent juriSdiction, such decision shall not effect the
validity of the remaining portions of this ordinance. The
City Council hereby declares that it would have passed this
ordinance and each section, subsection, sentence, clause or
phrase hereof, irrespective of the fact that anyone or more
sections, subsect10ns, sentences, clauses or phrases be
declared invalid or unconstitutional.
SECTION 4. The Mayor shall sign and the City Clerk
shall attest to the passage of this ordinance. The City Clerk

shall cause the same to be published once in the official
newspaper within fifteen days after its adoption. This
ordinance shall become effective after thirty days from its
adoption.
