A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL FOR THE
CITY OF SANTA MONICA ACCEPTING A GRANT AWARD FROM THE STATE OF
CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE, OFFICE OF ATTORNEY GENERAL,
TOBACCO LAW ENFORCEMENT GRANT PROGRAM
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica desires to participate in the Tobacco Law
Enforcement Grant Program, which is made available through The California Healthcare
Research and Prevention Tobacco Tax Act of 2016 (Prop. 56) and administered by the
California Department of Justice to support the reduction of the illegal sale of tobacco
products to minors in the City; and
WHEREAS, on July 12, 2019, the City submitted its proposal for the Program;
and
WHEREAS, on September 30, 2019, the California Department of Justice
notified the City that it will be awarded $106,061 in grant funds for its participation in the
Program for four years; and
WHEREAS, the California Department of Justice requires a resolution from the
governing body to authorize the City to enter into an agreement with the State of
California related to the Program and to designate an agent to execute the agreement
and any amendments thereto.

NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Monica authorizes the City
Manager to negotiate and execute any agreements and amendments thereto with the
State of California to accept a grant from the California Department of Justice, in the
amount of $106,061, to participate in the Tobacco Law Enforcement Grant Program.
SECTION 2. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
