SUBJECT: Amendment to Firefighters Memorandum of Understanding

This report requests ratification of an amendment to the
current multi -year MOU with the Santa Monica Firefighters,
regarding vacation accrual rate.
Background
On August 23, 1977 Council ratified a multi -year agreement
with the Santa Monica Firefighters Associattion ne iatione(Resolution
No. 4916, Contract No. 2394)

clause for the sole purpose of discussing vacation accrual
rates, to be exercised in May, 1979.
At an executive session held during the course of police
negotiations, Council concurred with management's suggestion for

that we seek to remove ns from the otiationsecommenced
an accelerated vacation accrual rate. Neg
on that basis and an agreement was reached. Under the
agreement vacation accrual for the Santa Monica rFirefighters
would be at the rate shown in the chart below,
July 1, 1979. This rate is roughly at the mean accrual rate
found in the nine cities used to set Firefighter salaries.

The cost of the new accrual plan will be approximately $23,300
for the period July 1, 1979 to termination of the current

Recommendation
It is recommended that Council ratify the attached amendment
to the current Memorandum of Understanding with the Santa
