SUBJECT: Traffic Signal Installation and Street Work at Ocean Park Blvd.
and Sixth St. -- Award of Contract
Introduction
This report recommends that the City Council award a contract to the lowest
responsible bidder for the subject work. A supplemental report recommending
the lowest responsible bidder will follow.
Background
This is one of the projects approved by the City Council to be financed by
1979 -80 Community Development Block Grant Funds in the estimated amount of
$65,000. Property owners in the area submitted a petition to have a traffic
signal installed at the subject intersection. This project will reduce the
hazards to children crossing Ocean Park Blvd. to attend the adjacent nursery
school and Los Amigos playground. In addition to the traffic signal installa-
tion, Sixth St. at the intersection will be narrowed in both directions from
Ocean Park Blvd. This will further reduce the hazards to children by reducing
the distance that pedestrians must travel when crossing Sixth St.
An application has been submitted to the Coastal Commission for permit and is
expected to be received shortly.
Bids for this project will be opened on Monday, August 13.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the contract be awarded to the lowest responsible bidder
as presented by staff, subject to the receipt of a Coastal Commission permit and
approval of the Contractor by HUD. J
