Subject: Intersection Improvement of Colorado Avenue Between Lincoln
Boulevard and Ninth Street -- Award of Contract
Introduction
This report requests the City Council to award a contract to Security Paving
Co., Inc. for the intersection improvement of Colorado Avenue between Lincoln
Blvd. and Ninth St.
Background
To relieve the congestion at the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Colorado
Avenue, a left -turn pocket on Colorado Avenue, requiring the widening of
Colorado Avenue is to be constructed. This will complement the left -turn pocket
on the westerly side of Lincoln Boulevard at Colorado Avenue.
Bids for the subject project were opened in the Conference Room after 3:00 p.m.
Monday, December 10, 1979, and read publicly by the City Clerk. Plans and
specifications were issued to 10 contractors. Four bids were received as
follows:
Security Paving Co., Inc . .............. $72,777.50
A.M. Construction, Inc . ................ $82,805.00
Sully- Miller Contracting Co. ........... $87,671.00
Calex Paving Co . ....................... $92,275.00

Total Estimate $ 85,000.00
Originally $85,000 was budgeted for the improvement of both sides of Lincoln
Boulevard at Colorado Avenue. The improvement of the westerly side of Lincoln
Boulevard was completed and the remaining funds of approximately $61,000 were
returned to, the unappropriated Gas Tax fund. Gas Tax funds are available to
finance the completion of this project.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the City Council appropriate funds in the amount of
$85,000 from Gas Tax accruals and award the contract to Security Paving Co., Inc.,
the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $72,777.50.

to the lowest responsible bidder.
Background
To relieve the congestion at the intersection of Lincoln Boulevard and Colorado
Avenue, a left -turn pocket on Colorado Avenue, requiring the widening of
Colorado Avenue is to be constructed. This will complement the left -turn pocket
on the westerly side of Lincoln Boulevard at Colorado Avenue.
