Street Lighting in Stanford Street between Washington Avenue
and Montana Avenue -- Award of Contract
Introduction
This report requests the City Council to adopt a resolution awarding a contract
for the street lighting within the subject area to S & W Electrical Contractors,
Inc., the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $25,792, and to appro-
priate funds in the estimated amount of $15,900.
Background
Public hearings required under the Improvement Act of 1911 proceedings were
held, and the City Council, at its November 27, 1979 meeting, adopted resolutions
approving plans and specifications and ordering the work (Items 7 -B and 7 -C).
The Notice Inviting Bids was published on December 1 and on December 3, 1979.
Plans and specifications were issued to eleven contractors. Bids were opened
in the Council Chambers after 3:00 p.m., Monday, January 7, 1980, and read
publicly by the City Clerk.

In accordance with longstanding City policy of using City funds to pay for one
half of the construction cost of street lights in residential neighborhoods, an
estimated amount of $15,900 must be transferred from the City's General Fund
to finance the City's half of the estimated cost. The other half of the
estimated 31,800 total will be assessed to the property owners within the district.
In accordance with the Resolution of Intention No. 5424 (CCS), the City's half
of the payment is to be made at confirmation of assessment after completion of
the work. The assessment to the property owners may be paid by bonds over a
10 -year period at 7 percent interest.
Recommendation
It,is recommended that the City Council: .
1. Transfer $15,900 from general Funds to Accqunt No. 46- 500 -421- 000 -920 for this
project; and
2. Adopt the Resolution of Award of Contract for this project.

Introduction

A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA, AWARDING CONTRACT TO CONSTRUCT
STREET LIGHTING IN STANFORD ST. BETWEEN
WASHINGTON AVE. AND MONTANA AVE., IN ACCORDANCE
WITH RESOLUTION OF INTENTION NO. 5424 (C.C.S.)
WHEREAS, the City Clerk of the City of Santa Monica, in open
session on the 7th day of January, 1980, publicly did open, examine and declare
all sealed proposals or bids for doing the work mentioned in Resolution of
Intention No. 5424 (C.C.S.) of said City .Council, declaring its intention to
construct street lighting in Stanford St. between Washington Ave. and Montana
Ave. Reference to said Resolution of Intention hereby is made for the descrip-
tion of the work and the assessment district and for all further particulars.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council hereby awards the contract
to the lowest responsible bidder, to wit:

Maywood, California 90270:
pursuant to their bid dated, January 7, 1980, on file in
the office of the City Clerk, at the price named in their bid and hereby rejects
all other proposals or bids for the doing of said work.
