SUBJECT; Recommendation to waive formal bid requirements for
traffic signal equipment
Introduction
This report concerns the waiving of formal bid requirements for
traffic signal equipment.
Background
In response to informal bidding, we received one (1) response.
The amount of the bid was $11,510.69 from the Econolite Corporation.
To the best of the Staff's knowledge, this is the only equipment
comparable with our present signal equipment. To go out to formal
bid would cause unnecessary expense and delay.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the formal bid process be waived and direct
negotiation be excuted.

CITY COUNCIL SERIES
A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY
OF SANTA MONICA WAIVING FURTHER FORMAL BID
PROCEDURE AND AUTHORIZING DIRECT NEGOTIATION
FOR PURCHASE OF TRAFFIC SIGNAL EQUIP14ENT
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica Electric Division has a
requirement for signal equipment; and
WHEREAS, the signal equipment must be compatable with Econolite
Signal Equipment; and
WHEREAS, to the best of Staff's knowledge only one company can
supply this signal equipment; and
NOW THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. That the City Council finds that the requirement
exists to purchase the signal equipment.
SECTION 2. That further bid solicitation would cause unnecessary
expense and delay.
SECTION 3, That the City Manager is hereby authorized to excute
a purchase agreement for the equipment.
SECTION 4. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of
this resolution, and thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in
full force and effect.
