SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for Automotive Equipment
BID NO. 1494
INTRODUCTION
This report concerns award of bid for Automotive Equipment consisting
of one (1) 6050 GVW Pick -up, one (1) 6700 Pick -up, one (1) 10,000 GVW
Truck with stake body and lift gate and one (1) 27,500 GVW Truck with
hydraulic crane in the total amount of $81,453.01 including applicable
tax. This purchase is to be charged to various 1979 -80 fiscal year
accounts of the Mechanical Maintenance Department.
BACKGROUND
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and deliver
Automotive Equipment in accordance with City specifications, bids were
received and publicly opened and read January 17, 1980. Proposal pack-
ages were mailed to seventy -two (72) prospective suppliers and notices
were advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code
provisions. Three (3) bids were received, as listed on the attached
Summary of Bids,
NOTE: Although International Harvester Company is low bid on Item No.
4, they are currently on strike which is expected to last six to eight
months. They have stated that their delivery date would be one
hundred twenty (120) days after the strike has ended. The Mechanical
Maintenance Department has indicated an urgency for the Automotive
Equipment. At this time International Harvester Company can not
furnish an exact delivery date.

RECOMMENDATION
It is recommended that the City Council find that due to the delay in
the delivery time contained in the bid of International Harvester
Company, the bid of Carmenita Ford is the lowest and best bid received
for the 27,500 GVW Truck Crane, and that the award be made to the
lowest and best bidder for each item, as follows: .
