SUBJECT: Award of Contract for the Installation of a Sprinkler Irrigation
System on San Vicente Blvd. Center Strip from Ocean Ave. to
14th Street
Introduction
This report recommends that the City Council award a contract to J & R
Landscaping and Sprinklers for the installation of a sprinkler irrigation
system on San Vicente Blvd. center strip from Ocean Ave. to 14th St.
Background
The existing irrigation system is over 20 years old, corroded, and unreliable.
Buildup of mineral deposits in the galvanized lines restricts the flow of
water and causes the valves to stick. The requested system is designed to
increase the efficiency of water use and reduce maintenance costs by using
plastic pipe and less equipment.
Bids for the subject project were opened in the City Council Chamber after
3:00 p.m., Monday, September 24, 1979, and read publicly by the Assistant City
Clerk. Plans and specifications were issued to twelve General Contractors.

Funds in the amount of $35,000 are available for Account No. 53- 400 - 511 - 221 -920,
and encumbered in Work Order 79880 -000.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the subject contract be awarded to J. & R. Landscaping
& Sprinklers, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $32,900.
