Subject: Arts Commission Resignation
1 am resigning from my role as an arts commissioner for the city of Santa Monica.
Several responsibilities have been handed to me in the last 60 days: I was elected President of the Art Historians of
Southern California, the College Art Association appointed me to the Professional Practices committee and I was asked
to co -chair the Technology Planning Committee and serve on the District Planning and Advisory Committee for SMC. All
of this was in addition to my already committed schedule.
I still thought that I would be able to stay on the commission but yesterday, I learned that my proposal to pursue a
research project at the National Gallery of Art for Fall 2015.was funded. The preparatory work will begin in January and
it will most likely be extended to summer 2017.
At this point; I do not see how I will have anytime left over to give the Arts Commission.
It has been a pleasure working with all of you and I have enjoyed the opportunity to learn about our civic process and
serve the common good through this appointment by the city council.
All the BEst,
Walter
