Subject: Appropriation Changes for Three Existing Projects

This report requests City Council to appropriate additional funds for inspection
and contingency costs on three existing projects.
Background
Three public works projects -- the "Attorneys'" Addition, the Highland Avenue
Storm Drain, and the Main Library Restrooms -- require additional funds be
appropriated for inspection and contingency costs. These projects will continue
into the next fiscal year; therefore, the funds for inspection and contingency
costs must be appropriated from the approved and budgeted funds to ensure there
are adequate monies to complete the project.
A. The "Attorneys'" Addition.
On March 4, 1980, the Council awarded the contract for this addition
/s -f' to Joseph W. Eubanks in the amount of $535,455 (Item 11 -A). At
that time, it was estimated the total funds required for the project
would be $650,000. Funds in the amount of the contract, $535,455, were
appropriated. It is now requested that $110,000 be appropriated from
budgeted funds for inspection and contingency costs.
B. Highland Avenue Storm Drain Project.
On May 13, 1980, the Council awarded a contract to Steinbergs'
Construction Co. in the amount of $105,032 to construct this project
(Item 6 -E -3). The Estimate of Funds Required for this project was

$125,000, and was to be financed with Community Development
Block Grant Funds. Only $105,032 was appropriated at the time
of award of contract; it is now necessary to appropriate $20,000
of the budgeted funds for the inspection and contingency costs.
C. Main Library Handicap Restrooms.
r .J C7 The Council, on April 14, 1980, awarded a contract to Joseph W.

Eubanks in the amount of $24,909 for construction of restroom
facilities for the handicapped at the Main Library (Item 11 -A).
The Estimate of Funds Required was $27,000 and was to be financed
with Community Development Block Grant Funds. Only $24,909
was appropriated at the time of award of contract. It is necessary
to appropriate $2,091 of the budgeted funds for the inspection and
contingency costs.
Recommendation
It is recommended Council appropriate funds for the approved projects for
inspection and contingency costs as follows:
1. Attorneys' Addition . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . $110,000
2. Highland Avenue Storm Drain Project . . . . . . . $ 20,000
3. Handicapped Restroom Facilities, Main Library . . $ 2,091
