Introduction
This supplemental report recommends the City Council award a contract for the
installation of play equipment in the Tot Lot at Marine Park to Schwartz
Construction Company in the amount of $22,815, the lowest bidder.
Background
Playground equipment in this area has deteriorated and is outdated. The staff
report entitled "Renovation of Play Area at Marine Park, Item 11 -A on this agenda,
describes the proposed changes to the equipment in the Tot Lot.
Bids for the installation were opened after 3:0.0 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 1980,
and were publicly read by the City Clerk. Plans and specifications were sent to
eight contractors: Three bids were received as follows:
Schwartz Construction Co. $22,815
Ryco Construction $24,242
Wakefield Assoc. No Bid
Recommendation
If items 11 -A and 11 -B are approved, it is recommended the contract be awarded to
Schwartz Construction Company, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of
$22,815. If item 11 -A and 11 -B are not approved, all bids are to be rejected. A
total of $22,000 is available for the project, Due to the expenditure of funds for

playground equipment in Item 11 -B, it is requested the City Council appropriate
$19,466 for construction contract, inspection and contingencies. Funds are
available from general fund unappropriated reserve.

Introduction

Account Number 01- 400 -511- 000 -920, to complete this project.

Recommendation
It is recommended that the subject contract be awarded to the lowest
responsible bidder to be named in a supplemental report in the amount of
their bid if the proposed equipment to be installed is approved by the
City Council. If not approved, all bids are to be rejected. If awarded,
it is recommended that funds in the amount of $4,000.00 be appropriated
for inspection and contingencies.
