SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for Repiping Fire Station #2
BID NO. 1515
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for the repiping of a complete
building in the total amount of $8,850.00, including applicable
sales tax. Funds for this purpose are in account number 15260 -000
Public Facilities Maintenance- Plumbing.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to repipe the Fire
Station No. 2, located at 222 Hollister Avenue, Santa Monica, in
accordance with City specifications, bids were received and publicly
opened and read May 1, 1980. Proposal forms were mailed to one
hundred twenty -four (124) plumbers and notices were advertised in
accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions. Eight
(8) proposals were received as listed on the attached Summary of
Bids.
Recommendation
Although K & K Plumbing has the lowest bid, staff determined by
interview that they did not attend the Bidder's Conference and had
no knowledge of the scope of the work to be completed. K & K Plumbing
could not meet the three (3) day completion time, thus did not meet
specifications. It is therefore recommended the award be made to
Vince's Plumbing as the lowest and best bidder meeting specifications.
