SR-11-11-1980-6PNOV 111980 Santa Monica, California, November 11, 1980 TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Supplemental Report for: Award of Contract -- Street Lighting Project in the area bounded by Lincoln Boulevard, Santa Monica Freeway, Fourteenth Street & Pico Boulevard (excluding Eleventh Street). Introduction This report recommends the City Council award a contract for the installation of a high pressure sodium street lighting system in the area bounded by Lincoln Boulevard, Santa Monica Freeway, Fourteenth Street and Pico Boulevard (excluding Eleventh Street) to Paul Gardner Corporation, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of $112,441. Background This project was approved as a 1911 Act Improvement Project and funds in the amount of $105,000 for the City's half of the cost were appropriated at the City Council meeting of July 22, 1980 (Item 7 -A & B). Bids for the street lighting system were opened in the City Council Chambers after 3:00 P.M. on Monday, November 10, 1980, and read publicly by the Assistant City Clerk. Plans and Specifications were issued to 13 contractors. Seven bids were received as follows: Paul Gardner Corporation $112,441.00 S &W Electrical Contractors 120,346.00 Electrend, Inc. 120,440.00 Maco Services, Inc. 122,268.00 Smith Electric Supply 141,058.00 Allbrite Electric, Inc. 160,000.00 Pete's Electric, Inc. 163,851.00 City Engineer's Estimate 190,000.00 The City Engineer's estimate was based on the cost of a previous 1911 Act lighting project. Recommendation It is recommended the Council award the subject contract to Paul Gardner Corporation, the lowest responsible bidder, in the amount of their bid of $112,441.00.
