SR-10-28-1980-5PSanta Monica, California, October 6, 1980 TO: Mayor and City Council FROM: City Staff SUBJECT: Joslyn Park Mural OCT 1 4 1980 S Introduction OLT 2 S 1960 This report requests Council approval of the mural artist and the proposed mural for Joslyn Park. Background Council approved $1000 in the 1980 -81 budget for the painting of a mural at Joslyn Park. Ocean Park Community Organization formed a mural committee who sought and selected a muralist for the project. The proposed mural has been reviewed by staff and has been reviewed by the Recreation and Parks Commission. The layout of the proposed mural will be at the City Council meeting for Council review. Alternatives 1. Council may accept the mural and the muralist Arthur Mortimer, (see attached resume) as presented and authorize the City Manager to enter into a contract with the artist to perform the work. 2. Council may reject the mural and muralist and instruct staff to seek other proposals. Recommendation Staff recommends alternative no. 1, approving the mural and mural artist, and authorizing the City Manager to enter into a contract with the artist to perform the work.
