A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL
OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA AUTHORIZING THE APPLICATION FOR
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE FROM THE CALIFORNIA ENERGY
COMMISSION TO IMPROVE ENERGY EFFICIENCY OF CITY'S WATER
PRODUCTION AND TREATMENT FACILITIES
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica has committed to reducing its
corporate greenhouse gas emissions generate by its services and facilities
30% below 1990 baseline levels; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica has committed to becoming water
self- sufficient by 2020; and
WHEREAS, the water and energy nexus is such that increasing local
water supply also increases energy demand; and
WHEREAS, the California Energy Commission's Energy Partnership
Program provides technical assistance in identifying energy and water-
efficiency improvements; and
WHEREAS, the City of Santa Monica recognizes that the California
Energy Commission has limited funds for technical assistance and that
primary consideration
will be given to those that are committed to implementing the recommended projects
identified through the Energy Partnership Program.
NOW, THEREFORE, THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA MONICA
DOES RESOLVE AS FOLLOWS:
SECTION 1. The City will seek technological assistance, at no cost to the City,
from the California Energy Commission to identify efficiency improvements at the
Arcadia Water Treatment Plant. Provided that the recommendations for energy
efficiency meet the operational needs of the City, funding will be sought to implement
the adopted recommendations as part of the Energy Partnership Program.
SECTION 2. The City Manager is authorized and empowered to execute on
behalf of the City of Santa Monica, all necessary documents to apply for technical
assistance from the California Energy Commission as part of the Energy Partnership
Program and to implement the purpose of this Resolution.
SECTION 3. The City Clerk shall certify to the adoption of this Resolution, and
thenceforth and thereafter the same shall be in full force and effect.
