Bid No. 1421.
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for ductile iron pipe in the total
amount of $8,199.07, including tax. Funds are available in account
number 38- 955 -200- 000 -000, Water Department Revolving Inventory.
This pipe is charged to individual work order accounts when issued
from stock.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and deliver
ductile iron pipe in accordance with City Specifications, bids were
received and publicly opened and read on January 2, 1979. Proposal
packages were mailed to twenty (20) potential bidders and notices were
advertised in accordance with City Charter and Municipal Code provisions.
Two (2) proposals were received as listed on the attached Summary of Bids.
It is considered that the $27.34 total difference (including application
of 2% cash discount) between the high and low bidders for Item No. 1 is
offset by the cost of the additional unloading entailed. This unloading
is accomplished either by a crew held in the yard pending arrival of a
truck or the crew is recalled from the field if early morning delivery
is not possible. Awarding to one (1) bidder also will eliminate the
cost of issuing and administering an additional order.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to U.S. Pipe and Foundry Co.,
as the lowest and best bidder, in the total amount of $8,199.07,
including applicable tax. /
