SR-08-29-1977-11ESanta Monica, California, August 29, 1977 To: Mayor and City Council From: City Staff Subject: Extension of Pier Lease - Doreena Introduction: One of the lessees on Santa Monica Pier has had a one year lease which they have asked to extend. This staff report examines the situation and recommends a one year extension. Background: Dorothy and Doreen Adams have been operating the Fortune Telling booth on the Santa Monica Pier as "DOREENA, the Palm Reader ". They were among the first to sign the Pier Master Lease on July 20, 1976, and have been paying $85.00 per month regularly and on time. Their rental percentage is the highest on the Pier, 25 %, but since their gross sales ($4,000.85) have never exceeded their / /c required minimum ($4,080.00), they have paid only the monthly minimum. It is anticipated in the future other uses for this space will be required, either by adjacent lessees or a new lessee should the present operators go out of business. Therefore, a.longer lease has not seemed advisable. However, Doreena's has been on the Pier long enough to help create part of the atmosphere of the Pier. This factor, coupled with their promptness in payment, has lead to the staff recommendation. 0 Santa Monica, California, August 29, 1977 To: Mayor_ and City Council I t- E From: City Staff Subject: Extension of Pier Lease - Doreena Introduction: One of the lessees on Santa Monica Pier has had a one year lease which they have asked to extend.
