SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for transit buses. Bid No. 1387.
Introduction l t
This report concerns award of bid for thirty -two (.32) advanced .
design transit buses in the total amount of $3,696,774.00 including
delivery charges and tax. This award for award for fifteen (15) of
these buses shall be contingent upon receipt of notice of a grant
from the Urban Mass Transportation Administration and subsequent
Council approval of the contract. The grant for seventeen (17)
buses has been received and the related contract was approved by
Council April 25, 1978. Eighty per cent (80 %) of the total amount
will be paid by UMTA and the remaining twenty per cent (20 %) will
be paid with funds made available through the State Transportation
Development Act allocated to the City for bus purchases.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids for transit buses in
accordance with city specifications, bids were received and publicly
opened and read in the office of the City Manager August 22, 1978.
Proposal forms were mailed to the only two (2) manufacturers known
to be capable of building these buses and notices were advertised in
accordance with city charter and municipal code provisions. Two (2)
bids were received as listed on the attached Summary.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award for seventeen (17) buses be made to
Grumman Flxible Corporation, as the lowest bidder, in the total amount
of $1,959,079.00 and a conditional award be made for fifteen (15) buses
from the same vendor, in the total amount of $1,737.695.00. This latter
