SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for fire house painting.
Bid No. 1386
t'
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid in the total amount of
$8,600.00 for painting the exterior of Fire Department head-
quarters and the interior of Fire Station 2, 222 Hollister Street. ( "l'
Funds, budgeted in job order 15250 -000 (Maintenance of Fire Station
No. 1) and 15260 -000 (Maintenance of Fire Station No. 2), are part
of the Federal Anti - Recessionary Project.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish painting
service in accordance with City specifications, one (1) bid was
received and publicly opened and read in the office of the City
Manager on July 25, 1978. Proposal packages were mailed to
thirty -one (31) painting contractors and notices were advertised
in accordance with City charter and municipal code provisions.
Subsequent to the bid opening, the Staff checked with several
nonbidders to ascertain the reason for this limited response. It
was learned that the current high demand for painting service has
made it virtually unnecessary for contractors to seek contracts
through competitive bidding.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to George's Painting
in the amount of $8,600.00, including sales tax.
