SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for fork -lift truck. Bid No. 1391

Introduction
This report concerns award of bid, in the amount of $20,861.86
including tax, for one (1) diesel - powered fork -lift truck. This
purchase is included in the $86,000.00 budgeted in account 38- 500 -671-
000 -951, Water Department General Automotive. This is a new item.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and deliver
a 6,000 -pound fork -lift truck in accordance with city specifications,
bids were received and publicly opened and read in the office of the
City Manager August 15, 1978. Proposal packages were mailed to sixteen
(16) equipment dealers and notices were advertised in accordance with
city charter and municipal code provisions. Seven (7) bids were
received as listed on the attached Summary. The lowest bid meeting
all of the major specification elements was submitted by Highlift
Equipment Company for a Wiggins Model WD64STRT4. Two (2) wiggins
lifts are currently in the City inventory, the first having been put
in service September 17, 1976. Machine performance and dealer support
furing this period has been exemplary. Purchase of Wiggins machine
at this time will serve to minimize the tire, wheel and small parts
inventories.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to Highlift Equipment
Company, as the lowest and best responsive bidder, in the amount of
$20,681.86, including tax.
