SUBJECT: Reconstruction of the Transportation Department's
Yards - Award of Contract
Introduction
This report recommends that the City Council award a contract for resurfacing
and restriping the Transportation Department's Yards to Coast Electric Inc.
in the amount of $75,444.80.
Background
Bids for the subject project were opened in the City Council Chambers after
3:00 p.m., Monday, September 11, 1978, and read publicly by the City Clerk.
Plans and specifications were issued to six (6) bidders. Two bids were
received as follows:
Coast Electric Inc . . . . . . . . . . . . . $75,444.80
Calex Engineering & Paving Co. . . . . . . . 87,275.00
City Engineer's Estimate . . . . . . . . . . $60,650.00
Funds in the amount of $93,000 are available for this project in Workorder
No. 78850 -000.
The Transporation Department's facilities were constructed 16 years ago and
the bus parking areas are starting to deteriorate. A one (1) inch asphalt
resurfacing at this time will save the cost of more extensive reconstruction

in the near future. The work also includes the construction of a storm waste
water clarifier to collect the water from the refueling area.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the subject contract be awarded to Coast Electric Inc.,
1663 Euclid St., Santa Monica, California 90402, in the amount of $75,444.80.
