Introduction This report concerns award of bid for slurry sealing and related surfacing operations on Santa Monica Pier in the estimated total amount of $9,080.00 including applicable tax. Funds in the amount of $34,000.00 are available in account 46- 400 -531- 920 -000 (Re- surfacing Upper Deck of Pier). Background In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish slurry sealing and related operation on Santa Monica Pier, one (1) bid was received and publicly opened and read in the office of the City Manager May 9, 1978. Proposal forms were mailed to twenty -six (26) paving companies and notices were advertised in accordance with city charter and municipal code provisions. The sole bidder, Sandoval Paving Company, proposed: Quantity Unit 3,000 Sq. Ft. Asphalt Removal $ .75 Sq. Ft 55 Tons Asphalt Pavement 60.00 Ton 54,000 Sq. Ft. Slurry Seal .045 Sq. Ft. 2,200 Sq. Ft. Completion: 20 Days Extension $ 2250.00 3300.00 2430.00 1100.00 $ 9,080.00 (Tax included) T0: Mayor and City Council -2- May 10, 1978 It is considered that the absence of other bids is a reflection of the current high activity throughout the paving industry. The backlog created by the inability to work during the prolonged rainy season as well as storm - created damage evidently has diminished the competitive level in this field.
