SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for traffic sign posts.
Bid number 1377.
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for redwood posts for traffic
signs in the total amount of $12,036.30, including tax, for delivery
during fiscal year 1978 -79. This award will be charged to account
01- 500 -413- 000 -401, Traffic Signs and Striping Special Department
Suppliers.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and
deliver 750 redwood posts in accordance with specifications, two
(2) bids were received and publicly opened and read in the office
of the City Manager May 25, 1978. Proposal forms were mailed to
twenty -one (21) lumber suppliers and notices were advertised in
accordance with city charter and municipal code provisions. Mar
Vista Lumber Company bid $15.14 for each post and Jones Lumber Com-
pany, Inc., bid $14.98 each. The Jones proposal took exception to
the City's quarterly increment shipment provision and the price
quoted is for delivery in one shipment. The City does not have the
facilities to store and safeguard these posts if received in one lot.
The Mar Vista Lumber Company bid of $15.14 each for 750 posts is
$11,355.00 plus $681.30 sales tax for a total of $12,036.30.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to Mar Vista Lumber Company
in the amount of $12,036.30, including tax.
