SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for bus brake drums.
Bid No. 1364.
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid to supply bus brake drums during
the period July 1, 1978 through June 30, 1979, in the estimated
total amount of $11,278.31, including applicable tax. This material
will be charged to account 35- 955 -100- 000 -000, Transportation
Department Inventory of Materials and Supplies.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and deliver
bus brake drums as ordered by the Transportation Department, proposals
were received and publicly opened and read in the office of the
City Manager May 16, 1978. Proposal forms were mailed to twenty -
seven (27) brake supply companies and notices were advertised in ac-
cordance with city charter and municipal code provisions. Five (5)
proposals were received as listed on the attached Summary of Bids.
The alternate bid for Item One submitted by Graham Brake & Diesel
offered a heavy duty drum for $1.67 each more than a standard drum.
It is considered that the increased service to be derived from the
heavy duty drums will more than justify the 1.7% difference in cost.
Recommendation
It is recommended that award of Item One be made to Graham Brake &
Diesel Company in the amount of $7,633.59 and to Hausman Bus Parts
Company for Items Two, Three and Four in the total amount of
$3,644.72.
