SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for automotive equipment.
Bid No. 1359.
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid in the amount of $57,157,21,
including applicable tax, for one (1) 52,000 GCWR truck with tilt
cab and dual drive and one (1) 45- cubic -yard front - loading refuse
compactor body installed. Funds, in the amount of $71,550,00, are
available in budget account number 01- 500 -441- 000 -950, Refuse Col-
lection and Administration Capital Outlay, This diesel unit will
replace a gasoline- powered truck acquired in 1968,
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish either
truck and body as separate or combined items, bids were received
and publicly opened and read in the office of the City Manager April
20, 1978. Proposal forms were mailed to thirty -nine (39) truck and
body dealers and notices were advertised in accordance with city
charter and municipal code provisions. Five (5) proposals meeting
specifications were received as listed on the attached summary, It
is in the City's interest to purchase the truck and body separately,
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award be made to International Harvester
Company in the amount of $36,614.41 for the truck and to Universal
Truck Body, Inc., in the amount of $20,542.80 for the compactor
body. These amounts include applicable tax.
