SR-04-25-1978-6HTO FROM SUBJECT: Introduction Santa Monica, California APR 2 5 1978 April 12, 1978 fi Mayor and City Council i, , P City Staff Design and Construction of an Addition and Remodeling of the Fire Department Headquarters, 1444 Seventh Street -- Award of Contract This report recommends that the City Council award a contract for the design and construction of an addition and remodeling of the Fire Department Headquarters, 1444 Seventh Street, to Joseph William Eubanks, in the amount of $80,535. Background Bids for the subject project were opened in the City Council Chambers after 3 :00 p.m., Monday, April 10, 1978, and read publicly by the Assistant City Clerk. Plans and Specifications were issued to nine (9) contractors. One bid was received as follows: Joseph Wm. Eubanks ...............$84,825 City Engineer's Estimate ........ $87,500 Funds in the amount of $81,100 are available for this project in W.O. 77110 -000. Through negotiation with the Contractor, the contract price was reduced to $80,535, to be within the funds available. This decrease in the contract amount is in painting and other work that firemen or CETA personnel can do. 6 If APR 2 5 1978 To: Mayor and City Council -2- April 12, 1978 A Change Order will be issued to reflect this negotiated contract price. This second story addition is to relocate the Fire Prevention Bureau (6 personnel), and to add a conference room, restrooms, and other space at the Fire Department Headquarters. At present the bureau personnel, together with an administrative assistant to the Fire Chief, are located in a room about 18' x 201. Recommendation It is recommended that the subject contract be awarded to Joseph Wm. Eubanks in the amount of $84,825, together with a change order reducing the total contract amount to $80,535.
