Subject: Public Hearing on the Intention to Abate Weeds and
Award of Contract
Introduction
This report consists of information on the Resolution of Intention
No. 5172 (C.C.S.), adopted January 9, 1979. Said resolution declared
certain weeds growing upon certain lands within the City of Santa Monica
to be a public nuisance. Funds to abate these weeds, in the amount of
$18,000 are available in account No. 01- 500 - 421 - 000 -642 and 643, "Weed
Cleaning Abatement."
Background
On January 17, 18, and 22, 1979, each parcel described in the Resolution
of Intention was posted announcing the date, place, and hour of the public
hearing. A notice inviting bids was published in the "Evening Outlook"
on January 22 and 23, 1979. Bid proposals were prepared and mailed to
four various contractors on January 22, 1979. The final date for the
submittal of sealed bids was February 13, 1979 at 2:30 p.m. Two sealed
bids were received by the City Clerk and opened publicly on February 13,
1979, at 3:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers. The bids were then tabulated
by the City Engineer's office as follows:

Recommendation
That, after consideration of objections, the City Council, by motion,
order the Maintenance Manager to abate the weeds. That the Council, by
motion, award the contract to Gary's Lot Cleaning, which submitted the
lowest bid in the amount of $18,570.
