SUBJECT: Widening of Olympic Boulevard Eastbound from Seventh St. to
Lincoln Blvd. -- Award of Contract. Special Provisions # 889.
Introduction
This report recommends that the City Council award a contract to T. J. Crosby
for $33,169.00 for widening Olympic Boulevard eastbound between Seventh Street
and Lincoln Boulevard.
Background
This project will allow three lanes of traffic to enter Lincoln Blvd. by minor
widening of 3 feet on the south side and 4 feet on the north side of eastbound
Olympic Blvd. This is one of several projects being recommended by staff to
facilitate the traffic anticipated from the new shopping center. No additional
rights -of -way are required. There are no residents adjacent to the project.
Bids for the subject project were opened at 3:00 p.m. on February 13, 1979,
in the City Council Chambers and read by the Assistant City Clerk. Plans and
specifications were issued to nine contractors. There were five bids submitted
as follows:

Prior to bid opening, an item for Cement Treated Base was deleted from the
bidding schedule, and all bidders were notified of this deletion by telephone.
All five bids received had accordingly omitted this item in their bids.
Funds in the amount of $50,000 are available from 1977 -78 County Gas Tax Funds
(Highway Through Cities) for this project under Work Order No. 89651 -000.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the subject contract be awarded to T. J. Crosby Co. for
their low bid of $33,169.00 and the Manager be authorized to execute the
contract.
