FROM: City Staff
SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for petroleum products.
Bid No. 1373.
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid in the estimated total amount
of $589,671.11, including tax, for gasoline, diesel fuel and oils
during fiscal year 1978 -79. Funds are budgeted in the Fire, Rec-
reation and Parks and Transportation Departments individual accounts,
and in the Central Warehouse revolving account.
Background
Is response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish petroleum
products as specified, bids were received and publicly opened and
read in the office of the City Manager June 13, 1978. Proposal forms
were mailed to twenty (20) petroleum companies and notices were
advertised in accordance with city charter and municipal code pro-
visions. Eight (8) proposals were received and are listed on the
attached summary of bids.
All prices proposed are current and are subject to change based
upon variations in the refinery "posted" prices.
The bid of Chevron, USA, Inc., stipulated that their bid for gaso-
line and diesel fuel, Items 1 through 5, was submitted on an "all
or none" basis. Although Chevron was the lowest bidder on gasolines,
acceptance of the combination bid is not considered in the City's
best interest since Chevron offered 45 Cetane fuel for Item 4 and
the City called for 50 Cetane minimum.
