SUBJECT: Recommendation to award bid for fire hose. Bid No. 1380.
Introduction
This report concerns award of bid for fire hose in the amount of
$7,115.78, including applicable tax. Funds for this purpose are
available in current year budget account 01- 300 - 311 - 000 -401, Fire
Department Operating Supplies.
Background
In response to published Notice Inviting Bids to furnish and deliver
three (3) sizes of fire hose in accordance with city specifications,
bids were received and publicly opened and read in the office of
the City Manager June 8, 1978. Proposal forms were mailed to nine-
teen (19) fire equipment companies and notices were advertised in
accordance with city charter and municipal code provisions. Four
(4) proposals were received as indicated on the attached summary
of bids. The Staff does not consider the lowest bid hose for Item
3 is best suited for the City's use. This hose will not load on
fire trucks as easily or as compactly as the hose offered by the
second lowest bidder. The difference in cost between the lowest and
second lowest bid item, based upon a ten year usage factor, is less
than one cent (le) per day.
Recommendation
It is recommended that the award for fire hose be made as follows:
